INSIDE THE ARTHOUSE: THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK

A love letter to old New York—and the people being left behind.

John Turturro stars alongside Steve Buscemi, Giancarlo Esposito, and Tatiana Maslany in THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK, a funny, suspenseful, and unexpectedly moving new film from writer-director Noah Segan.

Turturro plays Harry Lehman, an aging pickpocket whose particular set of skills is becoming obsolete. In a city of smartphones, credit cards, and surveillance cameras, even stealing a wallet isn’t what it used to be. And when Harry lifts something he shouldn’t, he suddenly finds himself in a world of trouble.

But beneath this old-fashioned crime story is something far more poignant—a portrait of a man struggling to hold on to his dignity, his livelihood, and the city he loves.

Recalling the gritty, character-driven New York films of the 1970s, Segan’s film is both a tribute to a disappearing world and a deeply human story about aging, identity, and finding one’s place in a changing city.

This week on INSIDE THE ARTHOUSE we welcome writer-director Noah Segan for a conversation about the making of the film, his remarkable cast, and the cinematic traditions that inspired it.

Join us for the conversation. Starting now.
